    Surgeon Gen. of SA Military Health Service Visits

    The Surgeon General of South Africa Military Health Service has applauded Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for its advanced medical equipment and infrastructural facilities for care. He said the Hospital’s management system is impressive and is a benchmark which South Africa can replicate.

    Speaking at a meeting with the Hospital Management, Lt. Gen. Aubrey Sedibe said the biggest military hospital in south Africa has 500 beds but he is impressed with how Korle Bu has effectively managed its over 2000-bed capacity, 4,000 staff and 7 institutions within it. “The representation of various Ministries within the Hospital is good because bureaucracy can be avoided when getting things for patient care”, he added.

    Lt. Gen. Sedibe was also impressed with some of the specialized services the Hospital provides and said he hoped there would be mutual collaboration to enable doctors and nurses in South Africa come for further training while Korle Bu staff also receive training in TB management in South Africa.

    The Director of Medical Affairs, Dr. Samuel Asiamah, who represented the Acting Chief Executive said Korle Bu, as a premier tertiary health facility has collaboration with various health institution in and outside Ghana for enhanced patient care.

    “The Hospital has a relationship with Liberia, US, UK and even recently Kazakhstan has come into the picture, therefore we are happy for your gesture to collaborate with us”, he said.

    He noted however, that some of our doctors have been receiving training in Cardiovascular and renal from South Africa but it will be good to enter into further collaboration for the benefit of our patients.
    The Surgeon General from South Africa visited the Hospital to find out areas they can learn, share knowledge and have mutual collaboration. The team comprised officers from South Africa and medical representatives from the 37 Military Hospital. The Hospital team comprised the Ag. CEO and other directors including the Dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Prof Margaret Lartey. 
    The Team were given a tour of some selected areas of the Hospital after the meeting by the Ag CEO and the head of Public Relations, Mr. Mustapha Salifu.
