Patients and Visitors
The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is the premier teaching hospital and national referral centre. It receives patients from all the regions in Ghana and some countries in the West African sub-region.
As a referral hospital, prospective patients are required to observe the protocols for the admission of patients. The protocols require patients to have been seen at a primary or secondary level Facility (Hospital/Clinic) before they are referred to the appropriate clinic for advanced tertiary care. By referral, it means the medical doctor seeing the patient clearly describing the synopsis of the condition in writing.
Korle Bu has lie-in wards for inpatients who are seen and detained for further management. Patients are required to pay for the services but subscribers of the National Health Insurance Scheme who are in good-standing usually do not have to pay for many of the services.

Accommodation for Patients & Relatives
The Hospital has accommodation (Mothers Hostel) for mothers/guardians of sick children who are admitted to the Children's Department. This is to make it easier for the guardians to attend to the children when needed. With adult patients, relations and guardians are not allowed to stay in the Hospital outside the visiting hours.
Visitors to the Hospital /Visiting Hours
The Hospital has scheduled time for relatives and friends of patients to visit at two different times in a day. The visiting times are;
Morning : 7:00am - 7:30am
Evening : 4:30pm - 5:30pm
Visitors To The Hospital /Visiting Hours
Korle Bu is vast and the Departments/Units are located at different areas within it. Security personnel are positioned at vantage points to assist in directing patients and visitors to the Hospital. This complements the directional signs in the Hospital.
